The Dogok Gaepo Hanshin Apartment complex in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, will be reborn as a 49-story residential building with 792 units.
On December 19, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the 13th Integrated Review Committee for Maintenance Projects had conditionally approved the urban planning, architecture, landscape, transportation, and disaster management plans for the "Dogok Gaepo Hanshin Apartment Reconstruction Project" at 464 Dogok-dong, Gangnam-gu.
The Dogok Gaepo Hanshin Apartment complex is located at the Maebong Tunnel intersection, where Maebong Station on Subway Line 3, Nambusunhwan-ro, and Eonju-ro meet. Completed in 1985, the complex currently consists of 620 units. With this decision, the reconstruction projects in the Dogok-dong area are expected to gain momentum.
The city has improved the urban landscape by harmoniously arranging the skyline with surrounding reconstruction complexes and securing a visual corridor connecting Maebongsan Mountain to Yangjaecheon Stream. In addition, a continuous pedestrian network will be established, linking Maebong Station to Doggol Park, the street park, and ultimately to Yangjaecheon Stream. A new public pedestrian passage will be created near Maebong Station to improve the walking environment for residents of nearby complexes, along with the development of rest areas.
Furthermore, open public facilities such as a small library and a community care center will be provided so that all local residents can conveniently use them. The city will also create a streetscape that enhances openness and connectivity, and plans to improve vehicle entrances and exits to ensure pedestrian safety.
Choi Jinseok, Director of Housing at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, stated, "As the Dogok Gaepo Hanshin Apartment project enters full swing, a foundation has been laid for it to become the center of reconstruction complexes in the Dogok-dong area. We will continue to actively support the reconstruction of aging apartment buildings going forward."
