A Winery Symbolizing the Authenticity of "Classic Amarone"

Kooksoondang announced on the 19th that it will introduce wines from the Italian Valpolicella region winery, Tenuta Santa Maria, to the domestic market.

Tenuta Santa Maria is a family-run winery owned by the Bertani family, with vineyards and winemaking facilities in the Valpolicella and Soave areas near Verona, Veneto, Italy. The winery is known for its philosophy of single-vineyard production, artisanal winemaking, and deep understanding of indigenous grape varieties, resulting in wines that intricately express the Verona terroir.

Tenuta Santa Maria is recognized as one of the wineries symbolizing the authenticity of "classic Amarone," thanks to the Bertani family's long winemaking history in the Valpolicella region and their contributions to the Amarone winemaking method. While maintaining the traditional appassimento (dried grape) technique, long-term aging, and mostly manual grape cultivation, the winery also practices sustainable farming by minimizing chemical treatments and promoting biodiversity. Amarone wines are made by naturally drying harvested grapes for three to four months before fermentation. The prolonged drying process increases the sugar content, resulting in wines with a rich flavor and high alcohol content.

The flagship product, "Tenuta Santa Maria Amarone Della Valpolicella," is a wine made from indigenous grape varieties such as Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella, which are dried and then aged for an extended period. It features a complex blend of dried fruit, cocoa, spice, and balsamic notes, with a dense structure and a long finish.
