More Than Just Lights: Boosting the Local Economy
The walking trail at Mangjeongwoo Logistics Park, located at 416 Mangjeong-dong, Yeongcheon City, is emerging as a new nighttime attraction during the winter season.
According to Yeongcheon City, landscape lighting in the form of string lights has been installed on the Yoshino cherry trees planted along the park’s walking trail, transforming what was once a desolate winter park into a warm, illuminated path.

In addition, for sections of the walking trail not covered by the lighting installation, point tree insulation materials have been applied to the Yoshino cherry trees. These not only protect the trees from low winter temperatures but also serve a maintenance function during the day and act as subtle landscape features at night.
This landscape lighting project was implemented to encourage citizens to visit the park even during the winter months, when the scenery becomes monotonous after the leaves have fallen. With Christmas and the year-end holidays approaching, the city expects a significant increase in visits from families, couples, and tourists.
A city official stated, "The lighting on the Yoshino cherry trees is not just decorative; it is part of a landscape improvement project aimed at creating conditions for citizens to visit the park even in winter and to promote coexistence with local businesses. We will continue to create park experiences that reflect seasonal characteristics, providing rest and enjoyment for citizens and vitality for the local community."
Mangjeongwoo Logistics Park is an urban park featuring a waterfront walking trail and rest areas that can be enjoyed year-round. With the recent installation of landscape lighting, the park aims to further establish itself as a place people want to walk in winter and a destination where visitors can linger even at night.
