Spinning the Car Repeatedly in Place... Suspected of Reckless Driving
"I Did It Out of Curiosity Because There Was No Traffic," Says the Suspect
A tourist in his 20s was apprehended by police in Jeju on suspicion of reckless driving late at night.
The Jeju Eastern Police Station announced on December 17 that they recently booked a domestic tourist in his 20s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of reckless driving under the Road Traffic Act and are currently investigating the case.
Mr. A is accused of repeatedly accelerating and braking in a rental car at around 9:15 p.m. on November 26 on the road in front of Jeju Port's 5th Pier in Jeju City. He allegedly engaged in so-called "drifting," spinning the car in place multiple times and driving recklessly.
The police identified the vehicle's license plate by analyzing the movement of nearby cars using closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, and apprehended Mr. A after conducting a search and seizure. During police questioning, Mr. A reportedly stated, "I drifted out of curiosity because there was no traffic."
The police plan to refer Mr. A to the prosecution without detention.
