RS Automation, a leader in the industrial motion control sector, announced on December 18 that it has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Sage, an industrial vision artificial intelligence (AI) company led by co-CEOs Park Jongwoo and Hong Youngseok. The two companies will jointly develop a physical AI-based robot operation platform, which is a core technology for next-generation robotics and automation, and will collaborate to target the global market.

This collaboration aims to combine RS Automation’s PC-based motion control, servo drive, and high-resolution encoder technologies with Sage’s AI models and vision-based robotics software to realize intelligent motion optimization technology for robots.

The two companies will jointly develop AI-Driven Motion Optimization technology, enabling robots to autonomously make decisions, correct themselves, and learn by utilizing high-resolution physical data (Physics Signal) such as motor, current, torque, and vibration generated during robot operation. To achieve this, RS Automation will provide servo systems, motion controllers, smart tuning platforms, and control and sensor data, while Sage will provide AI models, vision-based robotics algorithms, and AI training and tuning software stacks to create a prototype of the physical AI robot platform.

In addition, the companies will jointly conduct proof-of-concept (PoC) projects for major manufacturing and semiconductor clients to secure solution references applicable to real manufacturing and logistics processes. Based on the results of technology integration, they will consider formal business contracts and the joint launch of products. To respond to the growing demand in the global AI and robotics market, they also plan to expand international patents and global partnerships.

Furthermore, the two companies will strengthen collaboration with government agencies and research institutions by jointly proposing national projects related to physical AI, participating in the AI-based robot manufacturing platform (K-Robot Alliance), and carrying out national R&D projects based on data and AI.

Deokhyun Kang, CEO of RS Automation, stated, "Combining AI with motion control technology, which is the core of robotics, will set a new standard for the next-generation robotics industry. Our partnership with Sage is an important starting point for building a 'Korean-style physical AI platform,' and we aim to present an integrated robot platform with global competitiveness."

Park Jongwoo, CEO of Sage, said, "Physical AI, which is based on high-quality physical data, goes beyond simple vision and path optimization AI to become the key to enabling robots to adapt autonomously in real work environments. Together with RS Automation, we will realize world-class AI robotics technology in the fields of manufacturing and logistics automation."
