"Expanded Participation of Korean Companies in Advanced Cockpit Electronic Equipment"
Boeing announced on December 18 that it will place an order with Hanwha Systems for the supply of ELAD (Eagle Large Area Display) for the F-15EX program.
Boeing Defense signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in November last year with the Aircraft Program Department of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration of Korea and the Space and Security Division’s Fighter Program Department, pursuing various industrial cooperation initiatives related to the F-15. As part of this cooperation, Boeing selected Hanwha Systems as the global supplier of ELAD through a fair evaluation process.
The ELAD is a modernized cockpit display applied to the global F-15 fleet, including the F-15K Slam Eagle aircraft operated by the Republic of Korea Air Force. Built on the existing LAD (Large Area Display), it offers enhanced situational awareness, interoperability with mission systems, and long-term maintainability.
This contract is one of Boeing’s first supply agreements in Korea focused on advanced cockpit electronic equipment, rather than traditional aircraft structural components. In particular, it expands the participation of Korean industry in the advanced aerospace systems sector, with expectations for technology transfer and job creation.
Faye Dixon, Director of Boeing F-15 International, stated, “Optimizing display performance to match the way aircraft are operated enhances combat readiness and maintainability,” adding, “ELAD provides pilots with a high-resolution, large color display optimized for the F-15EX operational environment.”
She continued, “The F-15EX offers best-in-class weapons payload, range, and speed, serving as a core asset in the tactical fighter fleet. Its open architecture enables rapid capability updates to address evolving threats.”
