It has been confirmed that the petition filed by the People Power Party with the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, claiming that author Yoo Simin's remarks about Seol Nanyeong, the spouse of then-presidential candidate Kim Moonsoo during the last presidential election, were sexist, has been dismissed.
According to the Human Rights Commission on December 17, the petition was dismissed on December 9 on the grounds that it was not subject to investigation.
The Commission determined that Yoo's remarks did not meet the criteria for human rights violations, as the perpetrator must be a state institution, and also did not satisfy the criteria for discrimination, which requires that disadvantages occur in the provision of goods or services.
Just before the presidential election, on May 28, Yoo appeared on the YouTube channel "Kim Eo-jun's Dasboida" and said, "The position of being the spouse of a presidential candidate is not a place Seol Nanyeong could ever reach in her life. Right now, her feet are floating in the air. So it means she is 'not in her right mind.'"
Yoo also said, "(For candidate Kim,) in Seol Nanyeong's view, he is such an extraordinary person that there is no balance between them. After living a rough life, she became the wife of a National Assembly member and then the wife of the Governor of Gyeonggi Province. She would look up to him even more."
