The Gwangju Coalition for the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities called for the guarantee of mobility rights for people with disabilities ahead of the appellate trial concerning the installation of lifts on Kumho Express intercity buses.

On the morning of December 17, the coalition held a press conference in front of the Gwangju District Court, stating, "We condemn Kumho Express for failing to introduce buses that are accessible to wheelchair users."

They said, "Previously, the court of first instance ruled that not guaranteeing the mobility rights of people with disabilities on express buses is clear discrimination. However, Kumho Express did not accept this ruling and filed an appeal."

They also added, "Although there is sufficient technology, institutional framework, and budget to install lifts on express buses, companies and local governments are shirking their responsibilities. We urge them to stop standing by and to come up with responsible measures."

After the press conference, the coalition attended the hearing of the 'second lawsuit for remedying discrimination related to the installation of lifts on express buses' held at the Gwangju High Court on the same day.
