Parking Environment Improvements Planned for 31 Markets and Shopping Districts in 15 Cities and Counties

Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province will invest a total of 12.9 billion won in 2026 to promote facility improvement projects aimed at strengthening the competitiveness and revitalizing traditional markets and shopping districts within the province. This initiative includes 7.2 billion won for parking environment improvement projects and 5.7 billion won for facility modernization projects.

The parking environment improvement project is designed to enhance convenience for visitors to traditional markets and shopping districts in the province by supporting the construction of new parking lots, the renovation of existing parking facilities, and parking assistance services. In 2026, a total of 7.2 billion won, including 3.9 billion won in national funding, will be invested in seven cities and counties, covering nine traditional markets and shopping districts.


The project details include: ▲ Construction of four parking lots (one new, three ongoing) ▲ Renovation of two parking lots ▲ Parking assistance at four locations.


The facility modernization project aims to improve outdated public facilities inside and outside traditional markets and shopping districts and to install customer convenience facilities, thereby ensuring the safety of merchants and visitors and enhancing market competitiveness. In 2026, the province plans to invest a total of 5.7 billion won in 13 cities and counties, targeting 25 traditional markets and shopping districts.


Kim Manho, Director of Economic Affairs for Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, stated, "Through the improvement of parking environments and the modernization of facilities in traditional markets and shopping districts, we will expand essential infrastructure and create an environment where visitors can shop more safely and conveniently. We will do our utmost to ensure the sustainable competitiveness of local commercial districts."
