A Stage Uniting Residents and People with Disabilities
From the "Pilgrimage House" Reading Performance to the Santa Show
Gyeonggi Province Presents Year-End Inclusive Cultural Performances
Gyeonggi Province will hold the December Culture Day event at the Gyeonggi Peace Plaza Library under the theme "A Winter Sensory Performance for All: A Day to Read and Laugh Together" on December 19 and 20 at the Peace Talk Hall of the Northern Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex.
The Culture Day event is a program organized by the Gyeonggi Peace Plaza Library to promote reading culture and expand opportunities for all residents, including the visually impaired and other information-marginalized groups, to experience culture and the arts. The December Culture Day event will feature a multidimensional reading performance and a Christmas family comic play.
This year, the event has been held seven times, attracting over 1,000 participants. By combining puppet shows, concerts, magic performances, and reading activities, it has transformed the library into a cultural hub with enthusiastic support from the local community.
This December’s event will be held in two parts. On December 19 at 2:00 p.m., there will be a multidimensional reading performance of "Pilgrimage House" by author Yoo Eun-sil. Professional actors will reinterpret the literary work in a sensory way by combining reading, acting, video, and sound. The performance warmly conveys the wounds, memories, and growth of various characters surrounding the Pilgrimage House. Instead of reading with their eyes, the audience will listen and feel the story with their hearts. Visually impaired residents from northern Gyeonggi will be invited, making this an inclusive cultural performance.
On December 20 at 2:00 p.m., the Christmas family comic play "Santa Knows Everything~" will take place. This performance, designed for children, families, and people of all ages, will combine a puppet show with magic, ventriloquism, and carols for a comic experience. Through the story of children waiting for Santa, the play will share messages of family love and sharing. After the performance, there will be a fun time with Santa.
The performances are expected to go beyond simple cultural events, providing an inclusive cultural experience that blends literature, performing arts, and intergenerational communication. For families, it will be an opportunity to strengthen emotional bonds, and for information-marginalized groups, it will be a valuable chance to enjoy literature.
Won Jinhee, Administrative Management Officer of Gyeonggi Province, said, "The Culture Day event is intended to create a space where everyone can come together. We have prepared it so that both people with and without disabilities can share inspiration and families can laugh together, and we hope many residents will participate."
The event is open to everyone free of charge. For more information, please contact the Gyeonggi Province Administrative Management Officer or visit the Gyeonggi Peace Plaza Library website.
