Following the Success of the Waterfront City,
Efforts Begin to Improve Educational Environment
Saemangeum Development Corporation announced on December 16 that, according to a preliminary demand survey conducted among foreign school corporations, there are corporations that have shown a strong willingness to actively participate in the operation of an international school in the Saemangeum area.
Last month, the corporation completed the "Feasibility Study Advancement Service for the Establishment of a Foreign Educational Institution (International School) in Saemangeum." Based on the results of this demand survey, the corporation has decided to actively pursue the project with the goal of opening the school by 2030.
According to the findings, the international school is planned to be established within the Saemangeum Smart Waterfront City. It will integrate kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school programs into a single institution. The proposed capacity is 540 students. The total project cost for establishing the school is estimated at approximately 81.3 billion won.
Kim Kwan-young, Governor of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, and Na Kyung-gyun, President of Saemangeum Development Corporation, signed a business agreement to establish a global educational environment in the Saemangeum area on March 6 at the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Office and are taking a commemorative photo. However, the corporation emphasized that policy and administrative support from Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province and the Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education is essential for the project's successful implementation.
Na Kyung-gyun, President of Saemangeum Development Corporation, stated, "A foreign educational institution in Saemangeum is essential to enhance the educational choices of foreigners residing in Saemangeum and citizens seeking global education." He added, "It is impossible to establish the school without policy and administrative support from the local government and the provincial office of education. Rather than focusing on extravagance, we will work with Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province and the Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education to ensure that a rational foreign educational institution can be established."
Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province also agreed on the necessity of establishing an international school. The province assessed the international school as a key infrastructure for improving the residential environment for foreigners and creating a global investment environment, stating, "We will cooperate with the corporation to ensure that the project can be proactively promoted from the city infrastructure development stage."
