Achievements in Fostering Advanced Space and Defense Industries
The strategy to foster the defense industry in Nonsan City, South Chungcheong Province, is yielding tangible results. Geukdong Communication Co., Ltd., a leading small and medium-sized enterprise specializing in radar and antenna technology, has been selected as one of the "2025 4th Defense Innovation Companies 100," once again proving Nonsan's competitiveness as a hub for the defense and military supply industry.
On December 16, Nonsan City announced that local company Geukdong Communication Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Seungho) was finally selected for the "2025 4th Defense Innovation Companies 100," an initiative led by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.
The "Defense Innovation Companies 100" program is designed to discover and nurture small and venture businesses with core technologies in five major advanced defense strategic industries: space, semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
According to the city, Geukdong Communication was recognized for its innovative technologies in the space sector, based on its accumulated expertise in radar and antenna technology.
With support from the Agency for Defense Development, Geukdong Communication will receive up to 5 billion won in research and development funding over a maximum of five years, along with benefits such as financial support, preferential consideration in defense industry development projects, and export assistance.
CEO Lee Seungho stated, "This selection marks a significant turning point to further advance our cutting-edge satellite antenna technology," adding, "We will accelerate the localization of mesh antenna technology, which has previously relied heavily on overseas sources, and speed up our entry into international markets."
A city official commented, "It is a meaningful achievement that a local company has been recognized as an innovative leader in the national defense industry," and added, "We will continue to expand support so that technologically capable small and medium-sized enterprises can grow as key players in K-Defense."
Meanwhile, since 2019, the city has been providing contributions to the Chungnam Defense Venture Center, continuously supporting local companies' entry into the defense industry through development funding and technical assistance.
