Overseeing Government Affairs

Intel, the American semiconductor company, has appointed a former White House aide to President Donald Trump as its new executive in charge of government affairs.
On December 15 (local time), Intel announced that Robin Colwell, former Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council (NEC), has been appointed as Senior Vice President of Government Relations. Senior Vice President Colwell will oversee Intel's government relations and will be based in Washington, D.C., rather than at Intel's headquarters in California. CEO Pat Gelsinger said of Senior Vice President Colwell, "Her extensive experience and deep understanding of the legal and policy environment will be an asset to Intel."
The largest shareholder of Intel is the U.S. government. In August, President Trump and CEO Gelsinger agreed that, in exchange for subsidies provided under the CHIPS Act, the government would acquire more than a 10% stake in Intel.
Intel also announced appointments for its technology and marketing divisions on the same day. After Senior Vice President Sachin Katti left for OpenAI last month, the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) had been vacant. Pushkar Ranade, CEO's Chief of Staff, will serve as Acting CTO in the interim.
Additionally, Intel has appointed Annie Shea Weckesser, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of SambaNova, a semiconductor startup currently in acquisition talks with Intel, as its new Chief Marketing and Communications Officer (CMCO). SambaNova has drawn controversy regarding Intel's acquisition efforts, as CEO Gelsinger serves as both Chairman of the Board and a major investor in the company.
