Connecting Space and Aviation Hubs:
Expanding Cooperation in Consumption, Tourism, and Social Contribution
The Space Aviation Agency, Sacheon City in South Gyeongsang Province, and Goheung County in South Jeolla Province have joined forces for mutual cooperation aimed at revitalizing the local economy and addressing the challenges of regional depopulation. The initiative seeks to expand local consumption and exchanges through collaboration between central government agencies and non-capital region local governments, with the goal of establishing a sustainable model for mutual growth.
On December 16, the Space Aviation Agency announced that it had signed a "Mutual Growth Sisterhood Agreement for Revitalizing Local Communities" with Sacheon City and Goheung County at the Space Aviation Agency headquarters. This agreement is part of the "Measures to Promote Mutual Growth and Local Consumption," a cross-ministerial policy initiative.
Sacheon City, which has developed around the satellite industry, and Goheung County, which has focused on the launch vehicle industry, are key hubs of South Korea's space and aviation sector. Through this agreement, the three organizations plan to jointly address population decline and the risk of regional extinction, while promoting balanced regional development centered on the space and aviation industry.
Under the agreement, the three parties will expand cooperation by participating in key local events and promoting tourist attractions, supporting the Hometown Love Donation Program and purchasing local agricultural and specialty products, as well as engaging in social contribution activities such as rural volunteer work and marine waste collection.
Yoon Youngbin, Commissioner of the Space Aviation Agency, stated, "Mutual growth with local communities is the foundation for the advancement of the space and aviation industry," adding, "We will continue to pursue cooperation that brings tangible changes for local residents."
