LG Energy Solution Registers First Patent Under 'Super-Fast Examination'... "Completed in 19 Days"

LG Energy Solution and Haechun Chemical Co., Ltd. have become the first companies to register patents using the super-fast examination system. LG Energy Solution completed its patent registration through the "Advanced Technology Super-Fast Examination," while Haechun Chemical did so via the "Export Promotion Super-Fast Examination."

The Intellectual Property Office announced on December 16 that it would present registration certificates to the first companies to receive patents through the super-fast examination system at a meeting room at Seoul Station.

LG Energy Solution Registers First Patent Under 'Super-Fast Examination'... "Completed in 19 Days" Provided by the Intellectual Property Office

On October 23, LG Energy Solution applied for a super-fast examination for its patent on "electrode assembly and electrode assembly manufacturing device," and on November 11, it was registered as the first patent under the Advanced Technology Super-Fast Examination, just 19 days after the application.

Haechun Chemical applied on November 11 for a patent on an "eco-friendly de-icing agent containing biomass," and was registered as the first company under the Export Promotion Super-Fast Examination on December 2, only 21 days after the application.

On this day, the Intellectual Property Office will present patent registration certificates, personally signed by the Commissioner, to LG Energy Solution (No. 1 in advanced technology) and Haechun Chemical (No. 1 in export promotion), and will share experiences with companies that have utilized the super-fast examination system.

The super-fast examination system was introduced in October, coinciding with the launch of the Intellectual Property Office, to drastically shorten the examination period so that exporting companies can establish overseas expansion strategies in a timely manner.

The main purpose of introducing the super-fast examination system is to reduce the examination period, which took an average of 16.1 months last year, to around one month. This allows domestic exporting companies facing patent disputes with overseas companies to quickly secure patent rights.

As of December 10, a total of 128 applications for super-fast examination had been filed, with five of them receiving registration decisions. The average period from application to registration decision was found to be 25.1 days (based on registered cases).

From next year, the Intellectual Property Office plans to expand the limited number of super-fast examination cases in both the export promotion and advanced technology sectors from 500 each to 2,000 each, and to abolish the current restriction in the export promotion sector that limits each company to three applications.

Company representatives who have previously used the super-fast examination system were also invited to the registration certificate presentation ceremony for the first companies to register patents through the system.

At the event, the Intellectual Property Office will review the progress of the super-fast examination system together with company representatives, listen to their difficulties and suggestions regarding the overall patent system, including the super-fast examination, and actively reflect these in future system improvements.

Kim Yongseon, Commissioner of the Intellectual Property Office, stated, "Early acquisition of domestic patent rights is the first step in overcoming protectionist trade barriers and establishing a bridgehead for entering overseas markets," adding, "The Intellectual Property Office will continue to provide full support to help domestic companies expand their exports."
