Brilliant Landscape Lighting and Cultural Festival
Illuminate Winter Nights with Light
Geochang County in South Gyeongsang Province successfully held the opening ceremony of the 13th Geochang Christmas Tree Culture Festival at the cultural rest area in front of the county office, marking the official start of the winter festival season.
This year marks the 13th edition of the festival, organized by the Geochang Christmas Tree Culture Festival Committee. Under the theme "Holy One! Geochang" and the subtitle "Geochang United by Light, Winter Nights Connected by Love," the event celebrates light, culture, and the spirit of community.
More than 300 people attended the event, including Gu Inmo, Mayor of Geochang County; Lee Jaewoon, Chairman of the Geochang County Council; Park Jueon, member of the South Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly; members of the Geochang County Council; and representatives from the Geochang County Christian Association. Together, they shared the meaning of the festival in a warm year-end atmosphere.
The opening ceremony began with a prelude performance by soprano Jung Eunsun and a brass ensemble, followed by the official opening ceremony, the lighting ceremony, and celebratory performances. During the lighting ceremony, the large Christmas tree and surrounding lights were illuminated all at once, brightening up Geochang's winter night and drawing enthusiastic responses from residents and visitors alike.
Mayor Gu Inmo stated, "This festival is a meaningful event jointly prepared by residents and local organizations. It is especially significant that we are able to light up the landscape created through the cityscape lighting project during the opening ceremony of the Tree Culture Festival. I hope this festival will be a year-end gift that brings comfort and hope to all residents and visitors."
The lighting ceremony was part of Geochang County's year-end cityscape lighting project. The official lighting included the large tree in front of the county office, nine photo zone installations at main gates and the cultural rest area, as well as landscape lighting and installations at the county office rotary and three roundabouts, all illuminated in conjunction with the festival's opening.
The landscape lighting will be on display until January 25 of next year, operating daily from 5 p.m. to midnight.
The Tree Culture Festival will run until the 25th at the cultural rest area in front of the Geochang County Office, with performances held every day from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. During weekends, additional activities such as craft workshops and a flea market will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Meanwhile, Geochang County plans to continue developing cultural festivals with active participation from residents, further strengthening the local community and solidifying its status as a city of culture and the arts.
