Mapo District in Seoul (Mayor Park Gangsoo) will implement special safety management measures in the Red Road area from December 19 to 31 in observance of the year-end and New Year holidays.

On December 16, Mapo District announced that during this period, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. the following day, a total of 770 personnel-including 254 public officials, 196 professional contractors, and 320 civilian staff-will be deployed on-site to strengthen safety management.

Mapo District Launches Special Safety Management for Year-End at Hongdae Red Road Park Gangsu, Mayor of Mapo District, is implementing safety management measures in preparation for the crowd congestion on Halloween Day last October. Provided by Mapo District Office.

When up to 140,000 people gathered in the Hongdae Tourism Special Zone on Halloween Day last October, the district decided to extend the safety management period by four days compared to last year.

The district has formed a dedicated task force for crowd safety management and completed working-level consultations with Mapo Police Station, Mapo Fire Station, and Korea Electric Power Corporation. From December 8 to 18, a pre-inspection period is being conducted to identify and address risk factors by department.

During the special safety management period, an on-site situation room will be set up at Red Road R4 to coordinate phased crowd control and traffic management with relevant agencies. Intensive inspections and safety campaigns will be carried out around Exit 9 of Hongdae Entrance Station, Club Street, and Red Road sections R2 to R5. Safety fences will be installed in congested areas to guide pedestrian flow to the right.

The district will also use the 'AI Crowd Density Analysis System' installed at nine crowded locations to analyze risk situations in real time, and will quickly disseminate emergency disaster messages and crowd safety guidelines through five disaster text display boards.

Mayor Park Gangsoo stated, "Since many people gather during the year-end and New Year holidays, meticulous safety management that does not overlook even the smallest risks is more important than ever. Mapo District will maintain a field-oriented response system until the end and do its utmost to ensure that both residents and visitors can enjoy the holidays with peace of mind."
