School of Liberal Studies Students
Free to Choose Majors Without Quota Restrictions
The University of Seoul will select 884 students through the regular admission process for the 2026 academic year, accounting for 46% of the total number of students to be admitted. This is an increase of 56 students compared to the previous year.
The School of Liberal Studies will recruit 45 students each for the humanities and natural sciences tracks. Students admitted to the School of Liberal Studies may choose any department or major, except for those in the College of Arts and Physical Education, the Convergence Major Department in the College of Liberal Convergence, and contract-based departments, when advancing to their second year. There are no separate quotas for department selection.
The regular admission general track (humanities and natural sciences) will select students based entirely on the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) scores. The main changes in this year’s regular admission include: ▲ simplification of academic tracks ▲ elimination of designated mathematics subjects and reduction of additional points for elective subjects ▲ adjustment of the proportion of each CSAT subject and recalculation of English scores. The academic tracks have been simplified from six tracks in the 2025 academic year (Humanities I~III, Natural Sciences I~III) to four tracks (Humanities I·II, Natural Sciences I·II).
In addition, the requirement for designated mathematics subjects (Calculus and Geometry), which was mandatory for some natural sciences tracks, has been eliminated starting with the 2026 academic year. For the elective subject area, students can now choose any two subjects regardless of whether they are from social studies or science. If humanities track students select two social studies subjects, or natural sciences track students select two science subjects, an additional 3% will be added to their elective subject scores. The additional points for the natural sciences track have been reduced from 7% in the previous year.
For the CSAT score weighting, the proportion for Korean language in the humanities track remains at 35%, but the proportions for mathematics and elective subjects have been adjusted depending on the department. In the natural sciences track, the proportion for Korean language has been increased from 20% to 30%. In addition, for all tracks, the score gap between English grade levels has been widened, increasing its discriminatory power.
For the regular admission general track in the arts and physical education, a total of 116 students will be recruited: 21 for the Department of Music, 29 for the Department of Design, 36 for the Department of Sculpture, and 30 for the Department of Sports Science. For the Department of Music, 60% of the evaluation is based on practical skills, 30% on CSAT scores, and 10% on school records. The Departments of Design, Sculpture, and Sports Science use a two-stage process: in the first stage, a certain number of candidates are selected based on 100% CSAT scores, and in the second stage, practical skills and interview (or school records) scores are considered.
The special admission track outside the regular quota, called the “Opportunity Equalization Track II,” will recruit a total of 102 students: 34 rural students, 25 specialized high school graduates, 33 students from low-income backgrounds, and 10 students with disabilities. Taking the CSAT is mandatory for all, and the evaluation method is the same as the general track.
Applications will be accepted online from 10:00 a.m. on December 29 to 6:00 p.m. on December 31. Practical skills and interviews will be conducted according to each department’s schedule from January 6 to January 14, 2026. The list of successful applicants will be announced on February 2, 2026.
