Lee (23), who is accused of fatally assaulting his mother in her 50s, was taken into custody on December 15.
On this day, Judge Park Chanseok, who is in charge of warrants at the Seoul Southern District Court, conducted a pretrial detention hearing for Lee, who is facing charges of parricide, and issued an arrest warrant, stating, "There is a risk of flight."
Lee appeared at the court wearing a mask and slippers, barefoot. When asked by reporters, "Do you admit to the murder charge?" he quietly replied, "Yes." When asked if he had anything to say to his remaining family members, he said, "Because I was foolish..." He did not respond to questions such as "Have you continued treatment for delusional disorder?"
After leaving the court, when asked, "Do you have anything to say to your mother?" he replied, "I'm sorry, I wasn't in my right mind," before boarding the police transport vehicle.
Lee is accused of repeatedly striking his mother in her 50s with a blunt object and a weapon at their home in Guro-gu, Seoul, around 6 p.m. on December 13, resulting in her death. He was apprehended by police who responded to a report from his father. It was found that in March, Lee had also been involuntarily hospitalized by police after exhibiting delusional behavior while carrying a weapon, but was later discharged based on the hospital's assessment.
