"300,000 Won Per Person for All Citizens"... Which Region Will Distribute in January Next Year?

Secures Surplus Funding Through Budget Cuts... 30.5 Billion Won Allocated

Jeongeup City in North Jeolla Province has announced that it will provide a "Livelihood Recovery Support Fund" of 300,000 won per person to all citizens in January next year. Last year, Jeongeup City also provided a support fund of 300,000 won per person to all residents.

On December 15, Jeongeup City and the city council stated that they made this decision to help stabilize the lives of citizens struggling due to the prolonged economic downturn. They explained that the sense of crisis in daily life, caused by high prices and the burden of heating costs, has reached its limit for many citizens.

The support will be universally provided to all citizens registered as residents of Jeongeup City as of December 15, regardless of their income, assets, or employment status.

The city emphasized that the significance of this support fund lies in the fact that it was not financed through debt or by overextending the budget. Through rigorous fiscal innovation, the city reviewed this year's budget from scratch, reduced unnecessary expenditures to save 22 billion won, and secured a total of 42.9 billion won in surplus funds. Of this, 30.5 billion won will be allocated to the Livelihood Recovery Support Fund to help share the burden with citizens.

The support fund will be distributed starting January 19 next year, in the form of the "Jeongeup Sarang Gift Certificate," a prepaid card. This approach is intended to prevent the outflow of funds from the region and to stimulate local consumption in neighborhood businesses and traditional markets.

Mayor Lee Haksoo of Jeongeup City stated, "This Livelihood Recovery Support Fund is a decision made together with the city council to provide a moment of relief and warmth to citizens enduring difficult times," adding, "We will continue to work with the city council to fulfill our responsibility as a strong pillar protecting the lives of our citizens."

Jeongeup City drew nationwide attention last year as well by providing a support fund of 300,000 won per person to all residents.
