Hanam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyunjae) has once again joined forces with key local organizations to ensure the safety of its citizens during the year-end and New Year season.
According to Hanam City on December 15, the city held another "real-time video conference of heads of related organizations" on December 11, a program first launched nationwide in November and recognized for its efficiency, to discuss concrete cooperation measures.
The meeting was attended by Lee Hyunjae, Mayor of Hanam; Park Seonggap, Chief of Hanam Police Station; Cho Cheonmook, Chief of Hanam Fire Station; and Yoon Sangwon, Director of Education at Gwangju Hanam Office of Education. The heads of each organization connected via video conference from their respective offices, without the need for travel, allowing for fast and in-depth discussions on urgent local issues.
The main agenda items included: ▲ maintaining order on Misa Culture Street ▲ protecting vulnerable groups against cold waves ▲ traffic measures for heavy snowfall in winter ▲ and response strategies for electric vehicle fires in underground parking lots.
First, roles were divided to improve the environment of the crowded "Misa Culture Street." Hanam City decided to strengthen the management of smoking booths and crack down on cigarette litter, while Hanam Police Station committed to responding immediately to noise complaints and increasing patrols to minimize inconvenience for citizens.
A robust safety net was also established for neighbors who may struggle in the cold weather. Hanam Police Station and Hanam Fire Station agreed to prioritize emergency calls from elderly residents living alone and other vulnerable groups, while Hanam City will maintain communication with welfare centers and mobile patrol teams in each district to monitor blind spots.
Traffic measures to prepare for frequent heavy snowfalls were also discussed. Hanam Police Station requested prompt snow removal on roads prone to traffic paralysis, and Hanam City decided to take preemptive action by clearing snow in areas with chronic congestion. Gwangju Hanam Office of Education also promised active cooperation in clearing snow around schools to ensure safe routes for students.
Measures were also established to address the high level of concern regarding electric vehicle fires in underground apartment parking lots. Hanam City will share the Hanam Fire Station's specialized fire response methods with apartment management offices, and in the event of a fire, Hanam Police Station will strictly control access to the site to ensure fire trucks can enter quickly.
This "video conference of organization heads" is an efficient model in which leaders communicate directly by utilizing existing facilities without additional budget. It aligns with the government's "one-stop civil service" initiative and was recognized as a national best practice by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission in September.
Mayor Lee Hyunjae stated, "All organizations must become 'one team' to protect citizen safety," adding, "We will continue to reduce formal procedures and pursue practical cooperation so that Hanam can be a city where citizens feel safe and secure."
