Daejeon City and Five Districts Inspect Cake Manufacturers and Retailers for Year-End and Christmas Season
80 Establishments Pass Hygiene Inspections
Daejeon City, known as the "City of Bread" where people can enjoy baked goods with confidence, has once again proven to provide a safe food environment.
With the year-end and Christmas season approaching, Daejeon City has launched hygiene inspections of cake manufacturing and sales establishments to prepare for increased confectionery consumption and the influx of tourists, as well as to ensure a safe food environment.
From December 8 to December 12, a joint inspection team composed of the Food and Drug Safety Division of Daejeon City and the hygiene divisions of its five districts conducted inspections at 80 establishments within the city.
As a result, all but one establishment passed the hygiene inspection, reaffirming Daejeon's reputation as a city where people can enjoy baked goods with confidence.
The inspection focused on the management of ingredients used in cakes, such as fruit and fresh flowers, the sanitary management of manufacturing facilities and equipment including cleaning and disinfection, and the appropriateness of labeling for production dates or expiration dates. In addition, 15 types of bread, including cakes, were randomly collected for safety testing.
Daejeon City is currently imposing an administrative fine on the one bakery that violated the Food Sanitation Act. The city plans to conduct a follow-up inspection to confirm improvements, and if any non-compliant products are identified in the collected samples, immediate action will be taken in accordance with relevant regulations.
Han Jongtak, Director of Sports and Health at Daejeon City, stated, "Hygiene and safety are of utmost importance to ensure that cakes, filled with the warm excitement of the year-end season, reach the tables of our citizens," adding, "Daejeon City will continue thorough on-site inspections and rigorous hygiene management to maintain its brand as a leading city for bread and desserts."
