Full-Scale Refurbishment of Aging Irrigation and Drainage Channels with a 4.605 Billion KRW Investment
Jeongseon County in Gangwon Province is moving forward with a facility improvement project for the ‘Nampyeong Large-Scale Land Readjustment District’ located at 1124 Nampyeong 1-ri, Bukpyeong-myeon (Nampyeong Field).

The Nampyeong District underwent land readjustment in 1980, but severe aging of the irrigation and drainage channels has continued to cause significant inconvenience for mechanized farming. In particular, as drainage functions have deteriorated, the area has repeatedly faced the risk of sediment inflow and farmland flooding during heavy rains, leading to ongoing calls for improvement.
To address these issues, the county will implement a facility improvement project focused on reorganizing the water supply system, introducing water-saving structures, and strengthening stable drainage functions during the flood season. The main improvements include refurbishing 3.38 kilometers of irrigation and drainage channels and installing 1.4 kilometers of retaining wall blocks. The project is expected to greatly contribute to farmland preservation and increased farming efficiency.
The total project cost is 4.605 billion KRW, and the area to benefit from the improvements is 106.8 hectares. The county announced that it will begin detailed design work in January 2026, obtain implementation plan approval from Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, and then fully launch the project starting in 2027.
Previously, the county completed the basic plan for the Nampyeong District in April 2024, incorporated the project into the mid-term plan through consultations with Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province in August 2025, and finalized its designation as a new project for 2026 in October 2025.
Jeon Sanggeun, Director of Agricultural Policy, stated, “The Nampyeong-ri land readjustment district has been in place for over 30 years, and the aging irrigation and drainage channels have repeatedly caused inconvenience and flooding for local farmers. Through this improvement project, we aim to fundamentally resolve these issues, enhance crop productivity, and prevent future complaints.”
