Ranked First in Fire Safety Enhancement and Rural Housing Improvement
Achievements in Comprehensive Life-Cycle Management: Prevention, Inspection, and Reinforcement
This year, Jinju City, which has been honored with the Presidential Award at the '2025 Korea Architectural Culture Awards' and has won the 'Korea Wooden Architecture Competition' for five consecutive years, has been recognized as the best in architectural administration in Gyeongnam Province.
Jinju City in Gyeongnam Province announced that it was selected as the top overall performer in the '2025 Architectural Administration Assessment' conducted by Gyeongnam Province among 18 cities and counties, and received an institutional commendation.
The 'Architectural Administration Assessment' by Gyeongnam Province is conducted annually to promote sound architectural administration and encourage active participation in architectural policies.
This assessment combines the results of key projects in priority architectural policy areas (70%) and evaluations conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (30%) to determine the final ranking. It evaluates 15 indicators across three quantitative and qualitative categories: participation in architectural policy projects, efforts to renovate and utilize vacant houses, and efforts to ensure local architectural safety.
Jinju City received high marks across the board, including efforts to ensure local architectural safety, efforts to renovate and utilize vacant houses, and participation in architectural policy projects. In particular, Jinju ranked first in the province for two sub-indicators under participation in architectural policy projects: 'performance in enhancing fire safety of existing buildings' and 'performance in rural housing improvement projects.'
These achievements by Jinju City are the result of consistent attention and implementation in everyday administration, such as support for small-scale apartment complexes, vacant house renovation, fire safety performance enhancement, operation of architectural inspectors, building maintenance inspections, and renovation of old chimneys in public bathhouses.
Above all, Jinju City is recognized for establishing a comprehensive life-cycle management system that encompasses prevention, inspection, and reinforcement, rather than focusing on specific projects, thereby increasing both policy reliability and the sense of satisfaction among citizens.
As part of this assessment, the province plans to present the Governor's Award to 18 public officials who have contributed to architectural administration, along with four outstanding organizations that were ultimately selected. Among them, two officials from Jinju City have been chosen as award recipients.
Meanwhile, Jinju City continues to achieve outstanding results in the field of architecture, having received the Presidential Award in the 'Promotion of Architectural Culture' category at the prestigious '2025 Korea Architectural Culture Awards,' as well as a Special Award at the 'Korea Wooden Architecture Competition,' marking its fifth consecutive year of recognition.
A city official stated, "Being selected as the top overall performer in this architectural administration assessment is the result of our continuous efforts to prioritize citizen safety and enhance fairness and transparency in architectural administration. We will continue to do our utmost to bring about tangible changes in building safety management, residential environment improvement, and urban landscape enhancement, so that citizens can live in safe and pleasant residential environments."
