Gyeonggi Province to Conduct Safety Inspections at Over 4,000 Rural Tourism Facilities Including Guesthouses

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government, in cooperation with city and county authorities, will conduct safety inspections, including for guesthouses, at rural tourism facilities during the winter season until February 6 next year.

To enhance the safety of rural guesthouses, which are vulnerable to disasters such as fires, Gyeonggi Province will support thorough safety inspections with the participation of private experts in the fields of electricity, fire safety, gas, and construction.

The inspections will cover a total of approximately 4,000 sites, including not only rural guesthouses but also rural experience and recreation villages, tourism farms, and rural tourism and recreation complexes. In particular, for guesthouse facilities, priority inspection sites will be selected based on factors such as safety accident records over the past three years, barbecue area structures, and any history of administrative sanctions.

The inspection teams, consisting of private experts and public officials, will visit the sites under the supervision of city and county governments. If necessary, joint inspections will also be conducted with fire departments and sanitation or construction departments.

The inspection items for guesthouses include: ▲ fire safety facilities (such as fire extinguishers and carbon monoxide detectors), ▲ fire hazards related to electrical installations, ▲ building cracks and other risk factors, and ▲ sanitary conditions.

To prevent "price gouging" that may occur during the peak winter season and to foster a fair tourism environment, Gyeonggi Province will also check whether guesthouses and other accommodation facilities are complying with the obligation to display price lists.

Through this initiative, Gyeonggi Province expects to enhance the safety of rural guesthouses and prevent frequent winter accidents such as fires in advance, thereby increasing the trust of tourists.

Lee Moonmoo, Director of Agricultural Policy at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Winter is a season with a high risk of safety accidents such as fires. We will actively support safety inspections of rural guesthouses in the province to create a rural tourism environment where residents and tourists can feel safe."
