Rising Concerns Over Spread of Infectious Diseases

The victim reported to the police, claiming that the man appeared to have done it intentionally. Anxiety over potential infection risks is spreading rapidly on local online platforms.

According to The Thaiger, a Thai media outlet, on December 8 at around 7:30 a.m. local time, a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, boarded the train at Nonthaburi Civic Center Station. Suddenly, he felt a sticky and wet sensation on his arm and soon discovered a distinct bloodstain about 10 centimeters long on his skin.

As he did not have tissues or wet wipes, he quickly wiped off the blood using a bank transfer receipt from his wallet. He got off at the next stop, Health Center Station, and repeatedly cleaned his arm with water and alcohol spray. Mr. A stated that he visited a hospital, underwent blood tests, and was prescribed preventive antiretroviral medication.

"Suspected Intentional Act... Extreme Anxiety" Expressed

On his Facebook page, Mr. A wrote, "I considered that the blood might have come from someone who had just donated blood or undergone a medical procedure, but the thought that someone might have deliberately smeared blood on my arm caused me extreme anxiety."

Mr. A said he is searching for the suspect due to concerns about possible health risks and asked for help. He described the man as wearing glasses, a black-and-white checkered shirt, and carrying a backpack. However, he added that he could not clearly see the man's face because the situation was urgent.

Local Online Fear of Infection Intensifies

Mr. A's post spread rapidly online in Thailand. Some users expressed concerns, saying, "He was trying to spread an infectious disease," "Will this cause an outbreak nationwide?" "It was clearly intentional," and "I'm now too scared to take the subway."

Mr. A requested CCTV footage from the MRT authorities, and footage from the departure station platform and corridor has been secured. He stated, "I identified a man who appears to be the suspect in the footage, but there were no visible bloodstains on his clothes or body, nor was he carrying any dangerous items like needles or syringes."

He also confirmed through the departure station CCTV that there were no bloodstains on his arm before boarding. However, the crucial 'in-train CCTV' footage has not yet been obtained, as it requires additional approval from the control center.

Police Secure Additional CCTV and Seek to Identify Suspect

The case has been officially reported to the local police station, and both the MRT operator and the police are working to secure additional CCTV footage and identify the suspect.

In an interview with local media, Mr. A said, "I am anxious in my daily life due to the potential risk of infection. If you experience something similar, do not hesitate to confront the person immediately or seek help from those around you."
