Allegations of Inappropriate Contact on Two Occasions Last Year
The prosecution has indicted Kim Bohyeop, former chief spokesperson of the National Innovation Party, without detention on charges related to allegations of sexual misconduct within the party.
According to the legal community on December 11, the Women's Investigation Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, led by Chief Prosecutor Park Eunhye, indicted Kim the previous day without detention on charges of indecent assault.
Kim is accused of molesting Kang Mijeong, former spokesperson of the National Innovation Party, in a taxi in July last year, and of making inappropriate physical contact, such as wrapping his arm around Kang's waist at a karaoke room in December of the same year.
Earlier, the police received a complaint from Kang in April and launched an investigation. In September, they referred Kim to the prosecution without detention, recommending indictment.
The National Innovation Party referred the case to its ethics committee immediately after receiving the report. In accordance with the victim's request, the party accepted the findings of an external investigation and expelled Kim from the party.
During this process, Kang raised concerns about how the party handled the sexual misconduct case and announced her departure from the party.
