President Lee Jaemyung on December 10 instructed authorities to "conduct a thorough investigation regardless of political affiliation or position" regarding allegations of collusion between the Unification Church and the Democratic Party of Korea.
The presidential office announced through a press release that President Lee had issued these instructions in response to suspicions of illegal connections between a specific religious organization and politicians.
President Lee's directive is seen as targeting the Unification Church, which has recently come under suspicion for allegedly lobbying both current and former lawmakers from the People Power Party and the Democratic Party of Korea.
Previously, during a Cabinet meeting on December 2, President Lee had stated, "Any foundation engaged in reprehensible acts that violate the Constitution and the law must be dissolved."
