'Major Hunter' Koepka, Rumors Swirl About PGA Tour Return

Sports Business Journal Reports Koepka Considering Move
16 Career Wins Including 5 Major Titles
Possible PGA Comeback Next Year if Absent from LIV Golf

'Major hunter' Brooks Koepka (USA) is reportedly considering a return to the PGA Tour.

On December 9 (local time), the U.S. Sports Business Journal reported that Koepka, the leading star of LIV Golf, is seeking a return to the PGA Tour. In an interview article with LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil, the outlet cited four sources as saying, "Koepka may not play in LIV Golf for the 2026 season," and added, "If he receives a one-year suspension due to his move to LIV Golf, he could be eligible to play on the PGA Tour at the end of August next year."

When asked about the matter, CEO O'Neil responded, "We operate according to policy and cannot discuss individual player contracts," adding, "All I can say is that he is under contract through 2026." Following this report, several media outlets stated that the likelihood of Koepka returning to the PGA Tour has increased.

Forbes wrote, "Rumors are swirling about Koepka's return to the PGA Tour," and noted, "There is growing attention on Koepka's next steps, given his struggles with injuries and poor results since moving to LIV Golf." Golf Digest commented, "If the rumors of Koepka's return were unfounded, CEO O'Neil would have strongly denied them," thus raising the possibility of his return to the PGA Tour.

Koepka is a star player with a total of 16 career wins, including nine on the PGA Tour. He has won the US Open twice and the PGA Championship three times, claiming a total of five major titles. He moved to LIV Golf in 2022 and won two tournaments each in 2023 and 2024. However, he finished this season without a win, continuing a slump.

Currently, the PGA Tour immediately expels members who participate in LIV Golf, and requires them to be reinstated if they wish to return. Non-members are prohibited from competing in PGA Tour events for one year after their last appearance in a LIV Golf tournament. Fox Sports explained, "If Koepka receives a one-year suspension, he could return to the PGA Tour in August next year." Koepka's last LIV Golf event was the Indianapolis tournament held in August this year.
