The Yeo-Sun 10·19 Incident Fact-Finding and Victim Honor Restoration Working Committee (Chairman: Governor of Jeonnam Province) held its 16th meeting at the Eastern Government Complex of Jeonnam Province on December 8, completing the review of 542 cases involving victims and bereaved families of the Yeo-Sun Incident.

Including the cases reviewed at this meeting, the Working Committee has processed a total of 7,493 cases, completing about 69% of the 10,879 total reported cases. This achievement surpasses the annual goal of completing the review of 7,465 cases submitted during the first and second reporting periods.

The 542 cases approved in this round of review consist of: ▲ 69 cases decided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission ▲ 196 cases with attached official certificates ▲ 277 cases with attached guarantor statements and others. The committee will prepare a review opinion for each case and request a decision on victim and bereaved family status from the Yeo-Sun Incident Honor Restoration Committee (Chairman: Prime Minister).

Additionally, at this meeting, the Working Committee resolved to further systematize and expedite the procedures for fact-finding and restoring the honor of victims and their families, and to provide full administrative support, in line with the launch of the second Yeo-Sun Incident Truth Investigation Report Planning Group in November, to ensure the smooth completion of the investigation report.

Ju Soonseon, Head of the Eastern Regional Headquarters of Jeonnam Province, stated, "I am very pleased that we have exceeded our investigation and review targets for victims and their families through this Working Committee meeting," adding, "We will promptly complete the remaining reported cases by 2026 to finally bring closure to the 77-year-long grief of the victims."
