A total investment of 1.098 trillion won for the entire Gamakman area, including the Expo site, Dolsan, Gyeongdo, and Musulmok
Chulhyun Joo, National Assembly member of the Democratic Party of Korea (Yeosu-si Gap, Jeollanam-do), announced on December 9 that Yeosu City has been finally selected as the site for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ “Complex Marine Leisure Tourism City Development Project.”
The “Complex Marine Leisure Tourism City Development Project” aims to create a large-scale marine tourism city by leveraging the region’s unique marine and cultural attractions and integrating private investment, concentrating marine leisure tourism functions such as recreation (leisure), sightseeing (tourism), and relaxation (resort).
Through this project, the entire Gamakman area-including the Yeosu World Expo site, Dolsan, Gyeongdo, and Musulmok-will be developed as a global complex marine leisure tourism hub. A total project budget of 1.098 trillion won (100 billion won in national funds, 100 billion won in local funds, and 898 billion won in private investment) will be invested over five years from next year until 2030.
Major public sector projects will include the establishment of a Smart Marine Leisure Support Center linked to the post-use plan for the Expo site, an Ocean Food Street Terminal at Dolsan Uduri (the site of the Sashimi Town), a Gyeongdo Complex Cruise Transfer Center, a Gyeongdo-Musulmok Sea Flocking Wellness Park, and the creation of an Aqua Marine Park at Musulmok Beach.
In the private sector, the city plans to maximize synergy effects by linking projects such as the newly approved Musulmok Tourism Complex (approved as a new tourism district in November) and the Gyeongdo Marine Tourism Complex, which is already under development.
Assemblyman Joo stated, “My first pledge during last year’s National Assembly election has been fulfilled, and I am grateful to everyone who contributed.” He added, “The selection of this project marks an important starting point for Yeosu to become Korea’s leading global marine leisure tourism city.”
He continued, “With the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, the marine tourism industry will not be just another development project, but a sustainable growth engine for the region. The government, local authorities, and the private sector will work together to lead Yeosu into the future.”
