Sinji Myeongsasimni Beach in Wando-gun, South Jeolla Province, has been named an “Excellent Beach” by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

According to Wando-gun on December 8, Sinji Myeongsasimni Beach is known for its fine sand stretching over 4 kilometers and its refreshing coastal scenery. The beach has also gained attention as a natural healing destination, as studies have shown that its concentration of oxygen anions-often called “air vitamins”-is more than 50 times higher than that of urban areas.

Pine forests and red clay paths have been developed around the area, enhancing visitor satisfaction. Most notably, this beach was the first in Korea to receive the international “Blue Flag” certification, awarded only to eco-friendly and safe beaches, and has maintained this status for eight consecutive years, the first in Asia to do so.

This year, the county focused on strengthening safety management and improving convenience facilities. In collaboration with the Wando Marine Healing Center, it offered marine wellness programs such as barefoot walking and beach pilates, and hosted events including a beach volleyball tournament, a marine healing CrossFit competition, and a national barefoot walking event, providing visitors with a variety of experiences.

The county also received high marks for deploying cleaning staff throughout the beach and camping areas, expanding water quality inspections, strengthening disinfection efforts, and increasing inspections of food hygiene businesses. Wando-gun plans to further develop Sinji Myeongsasimni into a hub for marine wellness and a year-round tourist destination.

A county official stated, “Next year, we will further advance our programs, facilities, and environment to maintain our reputation as the best beach in the country.”
