Selected as Outstanding Local Government by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety
and as Representative Shelter in North Gyeongsang Province
In these uncertain times, which city is the safest? Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province has provided an answer.
Uljin County has been selected as an outstanding local government in the "Natural Disaster Response Measures (Winter Season)" category, organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and will receive a commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety.
This selection for the winter season natural disaster response measures comprehensively evaluated the overall implementation of winter measures carried out by 226 basic local governments nationwide from November 15, 2024, to March 15, 2025.
The county received high marks for its proactive snow removal response, strengthened pre-management of vulnerable areas, and operation of resident evacuation systems, all led by the Department of Safety and Disaster Management.
In addition, under the "Our Village Representative Shelter" program (designating representative evacuation shelters for disasters such as heavy rain) organized by North Gyeongsang Province, the Onyang 1-ri Village Shelter was selected as a representative shelter and will receive provincial funding. The Onyang 1-ri Village Shelter was recognized as a representative shelter in the province due to its excellent evaluation in the adequacy of resident evacuation operations and the establishment of pre-disaster preparedness during the concentrated heavy rain and typhoon season from June to October 2025.
As a result, Uljin County has secured a foundation to further improve the facilities and operational environment of village shelters based on provincial support.
An official from Uljin County stated, "This award is more than just a recognition; it is a valuable achievement accomplished together with our residents to create a safer Uljin. We will continue to strengthen our systematic and effective prevention and response systems to better protect the lives and property of our residents from disasters."
