WSJ: "Up to $800 Billion"... Valuation Doubles in Five Months
Likely to Surpass OpenAI's $500 Billion Record

Media reports have indicated that SpaceX, the space company led by Elon Musk, is expected to be valued at up to $800 billion (approximately 1,180 trillion won) in an upcoming insider share sale.

On December 5 (local time), The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and Bloomberg, each citing anonymous sources, reported that SpaceX's insider share sale is set to begin soon, and that the SpaceX board discussed the matter the previous day.

According to Bloomberg, the per-share price currently under discussion is over $400, which would value SpaceX at between $750 billion and $800 billion in total.

However, it was added that the amount of shares to be sold and other details could change. Musk previously stated in June that SpaceX's expected annual revenue would reach $15.5 billion (about 2.28548 trillion won).

If SpaceX's valuation does reach $800 billion, the company's value will have doubled compared to previous assessments. In July, SpaceX was valued at $400 billion during a shareholder stock transaction, meaning its value has doubled in just five months. This would surpass the $500 billion record set by OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, in October, making SpaceX the most valuable unlisted company in the world.

Additionally, U.S. media reported that SpaceX is considering pursuing an initial public offering (IPO) as early as the second half of next year. SpaceX did not respond to requests for comment on these reports. Previously, Musk had mentioned several times the possibility of spinning off the satellite internet business, Starlink, for a separate listing first. However, it is now understood that the most likely scenario is a unified IPO that would list SpaceX as a whole, including Starlink, as a single company.
