Verifying Facts About the Gathering and Video Recording Background
Assemblyman Jang Completely Denies All Allegations
Investigating Remarks About "Digging Up Dirt and Ruining Him" and Whether Actual Disadvantages Occurred
Incident Allegedly Took Place During National Assembly Staff Gathering in October Last Year
Regarding the case in which a former female secretary, referred to as Ms. A, filed a complaint alleging sexual harassment by Assemblyman Jang Kyungtae of the Democratic Party of Korea, the police summoned Ms. A's then-boyfriend, Mr. B, as a witness for questioning on December 5.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency questioned Mr. B about the circumstances that led him to attend the drinking gathering in question, the situation between Ms. A and Assemblyman Jang at the time, and the background of the video recording related to the alleged sexual harassment. Mr. B is known to be the person who recorded the video.
In addition, the police are investigating claims that Assemblyman Jang made remarks about Mr. B to the effect of "digging up dirt and ruining him," and are looking into whether any actual disadvantages resulted from these statements.
Previously, in October of last year, Ms. A filed a complaint alleging that she was subjected to quasi-forcible molestation by Assemblyman Jang during a gathering of National Assembly staff. Assemblyman Jang has completely denied the allegations and has filed a counter-complaint against Ms. A for false accusation, and against Mr. B for false accusation, assault, and violation of the Protection of Communications Secrets Act.
On December 3, the police summoned Ms. A to investigate the details of her complaint and whether there was any secondary harm. They also plan to summon former and current secretaries who were present at the gathering to verify the facts in the near future.
