Expectations for Daedeok's Economic Revitalization and Quality Job Creation
with a Defense Science and Materials & Components Specialized Industrial Complex
Hwalseop Song, a member of the Daejeon Metropolitan Council's Industry and Construction Committee (Daedeok District 2, Independent), welcomed Daejeon City's decision on December 5 to include the Sinil District in Daedeok-gu among the four new industrial complexes announced, calling it "a significant decision that will serve as a new turning point for Daedeok's development."
Song emphasized, "I have previously pointed out delays in the Ansan and Pyeongchon industrial complexes and called for improvements to Daedeok's economic structure. The development of the Sinil District as a specialized industrial complex for defense and materials and components, spanning 135,000 square meters (approximately 40,000 pyeong) near the Defense Agency for Technology and Quality, is the fruition of a long-awaited project for the region."
The Sinil District aims to become a model of a 'green industrial complex within the city' by connecting with the nearby Jisu Sports Park and green spaces. According to Daejeon City's overall new industrial complex plan, it is expected to generate an economic ripple effect of 397.2 billion won in production and create 2,915 jobs.
Song urged the city and district governments to expand transportation and infrastructure, rationalize regulations, and implement policies to support businesses, saying, "Let’s create youth jobs and revitalize commercial areas through synergy with the existing Daedeok Industrial Complex."
He added, "The city council will provide oversight and support to ensure that the development of the industrial complex leads to attracting businesses and creating real jobs. Together with Daedeok residents, we will closely monitor the project and nurture it as a foundation for Daejeon's future growth industries."
