Susaek District 8 Set for Groundbreaking Next Year... Transformed into 620-Unit Residential Complex

Eco-Friendly Complex with Eight Buildings and 29 Floors Planned
Next-Generation Library and Welfare Center to Be Built
Sangam Area Infrastructure Expansion Anticipated

Susaek District 8 will be reborn as an eco-friendly residential complex with 620 units, combining work and cultural functions. With construction set to begin next year, the redevelopment projects in the Susaek-Jungsan Redevelopment Promotion District are expected to gain further momentum.

On December 5, Seoul City announced that it had convened the Integrated Review Committee for Redevelopment Projects and approved the integrated review plan for architecture, landscape, transportation, education, and parks related to the "Susaek-Jungsan Redevelopment Promotion District Susaek District 8 Housing Redevelopment Project (Amended)."

The site is a key transportation hub in the western part of Seoul, adjacent to Susaek Station and Digital Media City Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line. Residents will benefit from the Sangam area infrastructure, which integrates work, commerce, and culture.

Once redevelopment is complete, Susaek District 8 will feature eight apartment buildings ranging from three underground to 29 above-ground floors, totaling 620 households, along with neighborhood living facilities and community amenities. Construction is scheduled to begin next year, and with the completion of the Susaek substation undergrounding project in the same year, significant improvements to local infrastructure are anticipated. In the future, a next-generation public library and a comprehensive social welfare center are also planned for the surrounding area.

To the north, Banongsan and Bongsan Mountains provide a natural setting, allowing the area to be developed as an eco-friendly, mixed-use urban residential complex. Taking advantage of the sloped terrain, the southern part of the site will feature deck-style, interconnected neighborhood and community facilities, maximizing usability. The frontage will be designed with open spaces and dynamic fa?ades to provide pedestrians with visual interest.

The layout of the complex will follow the existing topography, with a gradually descending outer skyline to harmonize with the surrounding environment. An open visual corridor toward Banongsan Mountain will also be secured through the complex.

Choi Jinseok, Director of Housing at Seoul City, stated, "Susaek District 8, which previously struggled with low profitability and slow progress within the Susaek-Jungsan Redevelopment Promotion District, has now secured business feasibility and is about to break ground, raising high expectations among residents. We will continue to make every effort to ensure the prompt supply of housing in the future."
