Upbit Establishes Third Conservation Site for Endangered Plants Through Seed Vault NFT Collection

Dunamu, the operator of the virtual asset exchange Upbit, announced on December 5 that it has established a conservation site for endangered, rare, and native plants as part of Season 3 of the 'Seed Vault NFT Collection.'

The third conservation site of the 'Seed Vault NFT Collection' was created on the grounds where Dunamu's 'Digital Healing Garden' was operated during the 2025 Seoul International Garden Expo (approximately 667 square meters at Boramae Park in Seoul).

In line with the theme of an urban garden, a total of 28 species of rare and native plants, such as Korean mint and St. John's wort, which are gradually disappearing from cities, have been planted and represented as NFTs. Previously, through Seasons 1 and 2, Dunamu planted 29 species of rare and native plants at the Shingu University Botanical Garden, and 48 species of Hibiscus syriacus and 39 species of rare and native plants at the Jinhae Botanic Museum.

The 'Seed Vault NFT Collection' is a biodiversity conservation project promoted by Dunamu as part of its ESG initiative 'Tree,' in collaboration with the Korea Arboretum and Garden Institute (KAGI) and the Environmental Foundation. The project aims to combine the unique characteristics of NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) with environmental efforts, raising awareness of the scarcity value of plant resources and contributing to the protection of the global ecosystem. The NFTs are created based on images of seeds stored at the Baekdudaegan Global Seed Vault, the world's only wild plant seed conservation facility, and are issued through Upbit NFT.

Season 3 was held in conjunction with Dunamu's 'Digital Healing Garden' at the 2025 Seoul International Garden Expo from May 14 to July 30. Through on-site events, visitors were gifted NFTs of rare and native plants that matched their personalities, and seeds of those species were also provided so that the NFTs could lead to actual plantings.

Season 3 attracted more than 50,000 participants, receiving an enthusiastic response. It also achieved meaningful results in raising awareness and understanding of biodiversity.

Oh Kyungseok, CEO of Dunamu, stated, "The 'Seed Vault NFT Collection' is an example of how technology can become a tool for protection, rather than a symbol of destruction, in environmental issues. We will continue to discover the social value of technology and build a foundation for a sustainable future."
