This workshop was organized in line with the government’s strategy to become one of the world’s top three AI powerhouses. The event aimed to share the achievements of Busan Port, the world’s second-largest transshipment hub, in digital transformation and to discuss future directions for adopting new technologies.
During the event, BPA unveiled its self-developed AI and blockchain-based transshipment monitoring system, "Port-i," for the first time to over 200 representatives from shipping companies, terminal operators, and transport companies using Busan Port. This demonstrated the potential for advancing digital services and improving operational efficiency at Busan Port.
The newly introduced Port-i system is characterized by its high stability and reliability, featuring: ▲ AI-based prediction and detection of vessel schedule and operation delays, as well as transshipment connection risks; ▲ prevention of data forgery and tampering and enhanced reliability through blockchain application; and ▲ the ability to set permissions for data providers.
Additionally, Port-i offers ▲ real-time information on vessels, berths, and cargo at Busan Port; ▲ map-based AIS (Automatic Identification System) information; and ▲ anomaly detection and alert functions for vessel and cargo transshipment situations, which are expected to significantly enhance transshipment efficiency.
BPA plans to initially distribute Port-i to shipping companies and container terminal operators at Busan Port starting December 16, and to expand the service to all users of Busan Port in March next year.
The workshop also featured experts from various fields sharing the latest technology trends and application cases, including: ▲ "Operational Innovation and Technology Application Based on AI and Blockchain" by Professor Kim Howon of Pusan National University; ▲ "Performance Creation through Mathematical Optimization for AX" by Park Jongsung, Leader at LG CNS; ▲ "AI Application Cases in Industrial Sites" by Kim Pilsoo, Executive Director at Naver Cloud; and ▲ "Port Safety Solution Wearbee" by Dr. Choi Junghoon of Hyundai Motor Company.
Song Sanggeun, President of Busan Port Authority, stated, "In an era where technological innovation is synonymous with competitiveness, the adoption of advanced technologies is not a choice but a necessity. We will actively introduce a variety of future technologies such as AI, blockchain, and robotics to port operations to complete a world-class smart port."
