Five Outstanding Local National Heritage Education Projects Selected
The National Heritage Administration held an awards ceremony on December 4 at Osco in Cheongju for five outstanding projects aimed at revitalizing local national heritage education. The Commissioner’s Award was presented to five regions, including Daejeon, which taught local history through quizzes, role-playing, and hands-on activities.
The selected outstanding projects are: "Open! Hanbat’s National Heritage" by Hanbat Cultural Square in Daejeon; "Warmhearted Sejong Ilju" by Bugang Cultural Playground in Sejong; "Sokcho Heritage Exploration Team" by the Touch Museum in Sokcho; "Coveted Cheongju" by the Chungbuk Institute of History and Culture in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province; and "Mujus Cultural Heritage! Story Exploration Team" by the Korea History Education and Culture Institute in Muju, North Jeolla Province.
"Open! Hanbat’s National Heritage" teaches about local figures such as Park Paengnyeon, Song Siyeol, and Shin Chaeho, as well as cultural heritage sites like Bomunsanseong Fortress and Dongchundang, through activities including quizzes, role-playing, model making, and creating heritage maps.
"Warmhearted Sejong Ilju" provides community values through physical activities that utilize local architecture, nature, and traditional play heritage.
"Sokcho Heritage Exploration Team" introduces local history centered on sites such as Sinheungsa Temple, Joyang-dong Historic Site, and Seoraksan Mountain. "Coveted Cheongju" teaches about Three Kingdoms era heritage, such as the Sinbong-dong Ancient Tombs, through animation and archaeological experiences. "Mujus Cultural Heritage! Story Exploration Team" promotes local identity through stories and experiences utilizing Hanpungnu Pavilion and other regional historical resources.
Local national heritage education projects are funded by lottery proceeds. This year, the National Heritage Administration supported thirty such projects.
