Ryu Reveals His Identity and Appeals After Prosecutors Decide Not to Indict
Former national baseball team manager Joonil Ryu has submitted a national petition requesting the punishment of his former daughter-in-law. She is at the center of a case involving allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a high school student, and Ryu publicly revealed his identity to express his sense of injustice after prosecutors decided not to indict her, citing lack of evidence.

On December 4, Ryu posted on the National Assembly’s public petition board, appealing for institutional reforms to prevent similar injustices from happening to other families.
Ryu stated, "I am the whistleblower in the case of the female teacher who had an inappropriate relationship with a student," and added, "As a parent, I was deeply disappointed by the response of Korea’s judicial and educational authorities throughout this incident."
He continued, "There are circumstances suggesting that the female teacher maintained an inappropriate relationship with a third-year high school student for an extended period during the school term, and it was confirmed that my grandson accompanied them to hotels and other locations multiple times, causing significant pain and shock to our family."
He further claimed, "Despite physical evidence and various circumstances at the scene, an active investigation was not conducted. The district office classified the case as not constituting abuse, and the high school also avoided involvement, stating that the school bore no responsibility."
He emphasized, "The issues of the teacher sexualizing a student at her own school, exposing a young child to inappropriate situations, and the school's lack of oversight have not been clearly addressed and cannot simply be swept under the rug."

Ryu said, "Currently, my former daughter-in-law is even preparing to return to her teaching position, and the education office has stated that there are no problems." He called for amendments to the Child Welfare Act and stricter investigative standards to better protect students and children.
Ryu’s former daughter-in-law, former teacher A, was sued and reported by her ex-husband, Mr. Ryu, on charges of having an inappropriate relationship with a high school student and bringing her young son to the scene. However, on November 14, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office cleared her of all charges in both cases. In response, their son, Mr. Ryu, filed an appeal with the prosecution the previous day.
