According to the legal community on December 1, Heo Junseo, the presiding judge of the 11th Criminal Division at the Seoul Western District Court, will hold the first hearing for Nam Taehyun on December 11 on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) and other related offenses.

Nam is accused of causing an accident while driving under the influence near Dongjak Bridge in the Ilsan-bound direction of Gangbyeonbuk-ro in Seoul at around 4 a.m. on April 27. He reportedly hit the median strip while trying to overtake the car in front of him. His blood alcohol concentration was reportedly at the license revocation level (0.08% or higher). There were no casualties from the accident.

Previously, in August 2022, Nam was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year suspended sentence in January last year for using drugs he had purchased with his girlfriend. In March 2023, while under investigation for drug charges, he was involved in another drunk driving accident and received a summary order to pay a fine of 6 million won.

Nam Taehyun debuted in August 2014 as a member of WINNER, a group produced by YG Entertainment, but left the team in 2016. He later reinvented himself as a band musician, debuting again with the band South Club, but ongoing controversies such as drug use allegations made it difficult for him to return to the public eye. Now, with the added controversy of drunk driving, prospects for his comeback appear even more unlikely. He was scheduled to make a comeback performance at the 'K-pop Week in Hongdae' concert at a small theater in Hongdae in May, but the event was abruptly canceled due to the aftermath of his drunk driving accident.
