National Pukyong University Hosts International Workshop on Innovation in Survival Analysis for Biomedical and Health Data

November 28-29: Medical Statistics Experts from Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the United States, and Singapore Participate

What if data could tell you your remaining "survival time"? This once-imagined scenario is becoming a reality.

National Pukyong University (President Bae Sanghoon) held the "2025 International Workshop on Innovation in Survival Analysis for Biomedical and Health Data" at the Dongwon Jangbogo Hall over two days, November 28 and 29.

This international workshop was organized by the Statistics and Data Science major at National Pukyong University (Workshop Chair: Professor Ha Ildo) to discuss the latest trends and future directions in survival analysis, as well as research in machine learning and deep learning. The event was jointly sponsored by the RISE Project Group, the 4th Stage BK21 Convergence Education and Research Group for Artificial Intelligence, and the National Research Foundation of Korea.

The event began with a keynote lecture by Lee Youngjo, Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University, followed by presentations from 19 international medical statistics experts from Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the United States, and Singapore.

In his keynote, Professor Lee discussed "Post-Fisherian Likelihood Theory and Its Applications," explaining how the fixed parameter model theory proposed by Fisher-who is widely recognized for establishing the fundamental theories of modern statistics-can be extended and applied to various fields, including medical statistics and artificial intelligence deep learning models, as well as the associated inference procedures.

Participants in this event shared and discussed research ideas and future tasks through diverse sessions covering expert presentations, advanced statistical methodologies, and real-world clinical applications, and also took part in networking programs.
