On social media: "Entry allowed without any verification or investigation"
U.S. President Donald Trump has significantly raised immigration barriers following the National Guard shooting incident, while repeatedly criticizing the previous Joe Biden administration for maintaining a pro-immigration stance and holding them responsible for the event.
On November 30 (local time), President Trump posted on his self-created social networking service, Truth Social, stating, "Crooked Joe Biden, Mayorkas, and Kamala Harris, known as the 'Border Czar,' have ruined our country." He claimed, "They allowed anyone to enter our country without any verification or investigation."
This is interpreted as Trump blaming the previous administration's lenient immigration policies for the incident on November 26 in Washington, D.C., where an Afghan national migrant opened fire on two National Guard members. President Trump explicitly mentioned former President Biden, then-Vice President Harris, and former Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, holding them accountable.
The Trump administration is now moving to further strengthen its anti-immigration stance in response to this incident. President Trump announced that he would suspend the asylum process for individuals from third-world countries. He also stated that the review of immigration applications from Afghan nationals would be indefinitely postponed, and that the permanent residency status of foreigners from so-called "countries of concern" would undergo a comprehensive reassessment.
Additionally, he pledged to suspend the validity of all official documents approved via autopen during Biden's presidency. This measure is likely to result in the large-scale revocation of various administrative actions, including decisions related to immigration and special amnesty.
Recently, President Trump has faced political challenges, including the Republican Party's loss in mini local elections amid rising living costs and inflation in the U.S., as well as signs of division among his supporters after he attempted to block the release of files related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Using the National Guard shooting incident as a turning point, Trump is reemphasizing his core anti-immigration agenda and intensifying his attacks on the Democratic Party.
