Over 5,400 New Members Joined
Two Outstanding Organizations Recognized
Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Gijae), announced on November 30 that it has been selected as the top district for the sixth consecutive year in the "2025 Seoul Eco Mileage Program District Evaluation."
The district recorded over 5,400 new memberships during the evaluation period, including 4,849 individuals and 537 businesses and organizations, thanks to active efforts to expand participation. Notably, Yangcheon-gu exceeded its target by more than 100% in the organizational membership category, which is typically difficult to grow.
Eco Mileage is Seoul’s flagship carbon-neutrality participation program, which awards up to 100,000 mileage points per year to those who reduce their electricity, water, or gas usage by more than 5% over a six-month period compared to previous usage. Accumulated mileage points can be used for Onnuri and Seoul Sarang gift certificates, apartment management fees, tax payments, or can be converted into cash.
This year’s evaluation was conducted across four categories: new member registration, digital processing, promotional activities, and implementation of the building reporting and grading system. Yangcheon-gu achieved excellent results in all categories, receiving high marks for strengthening promotional activities in cooperation with local community centers and for expanding organizational membership recruitment.
The district directly visited apartment complexes and unregistered businesses, and conducted 203 on-site promotional campaigns at densely attended local events such as the Yangcheon Marathon.
Additionally, in the "2025 Second Half Eco Mileage Outstanding Organization Evaluation" conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Hyundai Department Store Mokdong Branch and Yangcheon Central Church within the district were selected as "top organizations." Yangcheon-gu was the only district to have two organizations receive the highest grade in this evaluation.
These two organizations were recognized for their contributions to reducing carbon emissions by operating high-efficiency facilities such as LED lighting, conducting ESG practice campaigns, and continuously managing energy usage. The district awarded certification plaques and letters of appreciation, as well as a total of 16 million won in incentives. These incentives will be reinvested in projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Eco Mileage membership is available year-round at local community centers, the district environmental office, or through the Eco Mileage website, and any Seoul resident can join.
District Mayor Lee Gijae stated, "Being selected as the top district for the Eco Mileage program for six consecutive years is an achievement made possible by residents who actively participated in energy conservation and local organizations that set exemplary standards." He added, "We will continue to lead in responding to the climate crisis and achieving carbon neutrality by promoting a variety of greenhouse gas reduction programs."
