The police have launched an investigation into the Coupang personal information leak incident.
On November 29, the Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it had received a complaint from Coupang regarding the personal information leak on November 25.
The complaint submitted by Coupang listed the defendant as an 'unidentified individual.'
Coupang initially reported on November 18 that it had discovered the unauthorized exposure of personal information from about 4,500 accounts. However, during a subsequent investigation, the company revealed that the number of affected customer accounts was confirmed to be 33.7 million.
Coupang added that while customer names, email addresses, delivery addresses, and delivery phone numbers were leaked, payment information, credit card numbers, and login credentials were not exposed.
The company stated, "We sincerely apologize for all concerns caused by this incident, and we ask our customers to be cautious of phone calls, text messages, or other communications impersonating Coupang."
