Restructuring to Empower the Planning Team
Major affiliates, including Samsung Electronics, have changed the name of their existing "Business Support Office" to "Business Support Division." This move is interpreted as an upgrade of the organization to expand the role of the planning team responsible for discovering future new businesses.
According to industry sources on November 27, Samsung Electronics changed the name of its Business Support Office to Business Support Division as part of an organizational restructuring carried out on this day. Other electronics affiliates, such as Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Samsung SDI, also changed their organizational names accordingly. As a result, the affiliation of Park Soonchul, Executive Vice President (CFO) of Samsung Electronics' DX Division, who leads the Business Support Office, has also been changed to the Business Support Division.
The business support organization is responsible for managing Samsung's operations and handles a variety of functions. This latest measure is understood to be aimed at empowering the planning team, which is tasked with preparing new businesses. An industry official commented, "It appears that the Business Support Office was upgraded to the Business Support Division to strengthen the role of the planning team under the former Business Support Office," adding, "It is expected that the company will focus on nurturing future new businesses."
Through this, Samsung is expected to accelerate its efforts in various future businesses such as artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. Earlier this month, Samsung Electronics reorganized its Business Support Task Force into the Business Support Office and separately restructured its M&A team.
