Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, has ordered the party's Ethics Inspection Team to conduct a fact-finding investigation into Assemblyman Jang Kyungtae, who is facing allegations of sexual harassment.
On November 27 at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Democratic Party Secretary General Cho Seungrae told reporters, "Leader Jeong has instructed the Ethics Inspection Team to conduct a fact-finding investigation regarding the reports about Assemblyman Jang." He added, "There will be a review of the materials and opinions Assemblyman Jang has, as well as other relevant facts."
The Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has launched a formal investigation into Assemblyman Jang on charges of quasi-forcible molestation. Assemblyman Jang is accused of molesting a woman during a gathering held at an undisclosed location in Seoul late last year.
Through his Facebook page, Assemblyman Jang stated, "I will respond strongly, including taking legal action, against these completely false and malicious accusations."
