SK Telecom and SK AX are joining forces with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to target the artificial intelligence (AI) cloud market. On November 27, the three companies announced that they have signed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement (SCA) and will combine their core strengths to actively drive innovation in AI infrastructure and services.

Through this agreement, SK Telecom will integrate its telecommunications and AI technologies with SK AX’s industry-specific experience in building and operating AI, as well as AWS’s global cloud infrastructure and AI services, to introduce customized AI cloud services for customers. In particular, SK Telecom and SK AX plan to leverage their experience with AWS services such as Bedrock and SageMaker to provide AI solutions optimized for the unique needs of industries including finance, gaming, the public sector, and startups.

The companies will also build a hybrid AI cloud model. SK Telecom will connect its own resources, such as in-house graphics processing units (GPUs), with AWS’s global infrastructure to securely process sensitive data locally while ensuring cloud-level scalability. This approach is expected to expand the application of AI services even in sectors such as finance and manufacturing, where data protection regulations have made cloud adoption challenging.

Additionally, by collaborating with industry partners such as the K-AI Alliance, the companies will establish a hub that spans infrastructure, services, and business channels, while also jointly developing innovation models tailored to each sector. SK Telecom has previously built a cooperative network with more than 30 AI startups in Korea.

AI security systems will also be strengthened. SK Telecom will develop cloud AI security standards and evaluation models based on its proprietary AI governance portal, supporting customers in developing AI services within a secure environment.

SK AX plans to design industry-specialized AI cloud stacks that reflect differences in data structures, security requirements, and operational methods for each sector, presenting executable models that are validated in real-world environments.

To enhance cost efficiency, the three companies will also provide AI FinOps solutions. By analyzing AWS usage patterns and optimizing cost structures, as well as enabling real-time monitoring and continuous improvement, they aim to reduce customers’ total cost of ownership (TCO) for cloud services.

With the signing of this SCA, the three companies have set a goal to supply AWS infrastructure and AI services over the next five years, accumulate cloud management expertise, and strengthen their competitiveness in the managed service provider (MSP) sector.
