Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province announced that the "Designation of the Gumi Bonggok New Town District Urban Development Zone and Establishment of Development Plan (Draft)," which is being promoted in the Bonggok-dong and Bugok-dong areas, was conditionally approved at the 10th Gyeongsangbuk-do Urban Planning Committee meeting held on the 21st.
The Gumi Bonggok New Town District Urban Development Zone is bordered by the Bonggok District Land Readjustment Project Area to the east and Gumi University to the west, and is adjacent to the North Gumi IC, making it a region under high development pressure. The provisional Bonggok New Town District Urban Development Project Association proposed the designation of the urban development zone after meeting the legal consent requirements.

The Urban Planning Committee approved the project on the condition of changes such as relocating parking lot sites and improving road alignments.
The total area covers approximately 240,000 square meters and will include residential land capable of accommodating 5,280 people (2,514 households), as well as systematically developed urban infrastructure such as water supply and sewage systems, roads, and parking lots. This is expected to improve the currently underdeveloped residential environment.
In addition, the plan includes the construction of a 30-meter-wide, 575-meter-long road outside the zone, a pedestrian-centered road system, the underground installation of utility poles, and floor area ratio incentives, among various public contributions, which are expected to significantly enhance the residential environment.
Gumi Mayor Kim Jangho stated, "Through this project, we aim to create a pleasant urban environment and contribute to enhancing public welfare," adding, "We will spare no administrative support to revitalize the local economy."
